The project process and the preparatory phase
The Sailing with the School project, used by over 2000 students in the three-year period 2023/24, as an Educational Trip organized by Italian schools, has been an opportunity for discussion with the IC Parco di Veio School for about two years, in particular with the teachers of Sports Science to be carried out used with Regional and European funding. The subject of the discussion that lasted over time was, mainly, on how to use the objectives of the A Vela con la Scuola Project to strengthen the PTOF (Three-Year Plan of the Educational Offer) of the IC Parco Di Veio and the specific programs of the Third Classes in relation to the basic social and cultural composition of the students of the School. We have worked to respond to the various educational needs present, not least those of a significant number of students from families of foreign citizens and more precisely 19 out of 51 students participating overall at a percentage of 37%
Financing and selection of participants
In this context, the school has made the choice to offer this opportunity to do the Sailing School Camp in Ventotene in a unique natural setting to students in the last year to allow everyone to take advantage of the benefit of funding from the Lazio Region based on the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) 2021-2027 to which the Ventotene Sailing Club had access by winning the Call D G13020 of 28/09/22. To allow the participation of all students in the third grade, having heard the parents in the class councils and unanimously agreed on the way forward, it was decided to spread some quotas of economically disadvantaged families among all the participants. In the communication, the families were informed that the project and the related trip could be carried out with a small contribution to be paid by them thanks to the Funding of €. 10,000, granted with D G13020 of 28/09/22 European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) Programme 2021- 2027 – Public notice “for the implementation of sports and cultural initiatives for students of the school system and the IefP system of Lazio” – Second edition, Policy Objective 4 “A more social Europe” – Youth priorities – Pivotal Action 18, Specific Objective f.
Destination of the stay
The training stay took place from 25 to 28 September 2023 on the island of Ventotene where students and teachers found a welcoming and protected environment: at km 0 archaeological sites and equipped museum areas, a lush and fragrant Mediterranean scrub, typical flora and fauna and small vegetable gardens, custodians of forgotten flavors. During their stay, the students attended a sailing course, organized by the Ventotene Sailing Club and held by FIV instructors, and participated in various cultural, naturalistic and recreational activities, accompanied by specialized environmental guides.
